Sexual assault. Immigration. Reproductive rights. Race relations.

Tensions surrounding these and other social issues are deeply affecting many in our society. Forces of social change seem to be working in a variety of directions. What social changes are surfacing and what forces are driving them? What role have grass roots social movements such as Black Lives Matter and #MeToo played? How are people engaging in social movements and role does social media play? How are these issues covered in the mass media? How do we engage students about these issues and manage the tensions surrounding them as they arise in our classrooms? How are these tensions lived out in our communities and how are we preparing students to engage in them as citizens? The 55th Annual ICA Conference will explore these and other communication issues. Submissions are encouraged in the following categories:

·      Research. Research projects at any stage may be submitted for presentation and response from a communication scholar.

·      Pedagogy. These submissions focused on teaching and learning may range from brief Great Ideas for Teaching Students (GIFTS) to longer workshops.

·      Discussion Panels or Roundtables.

Submission deadline is June 1, 2019. Program planner is Linda Laine lainel@central.edu. Watch for future announcements about when online submissions will to be accepted.
